Towards a learning community?
The majority of the events or activities of Local 4 Global are about information sharing and building of knowledge and skills with programme workers and the wider group. This is the first step towards building a learning community, the next step of engagement is about building knowledge and practice together with practitioners. Local 4 Global is a more focused network (and not a fully-fledged consortium as stated) as it is a loose grouping of organisations that share information and do not emphasise the creation of new knowledge. This is primarily due to the capacity within the local organisations, the size of the region and the time-scale of implementation.
Improving leadership practice?
What other work is going on in the region that contributes to this work?
How does it link up? What else needs to be done to enable the further development of a learning community?
Move from sharing information to creating best practice and furthering practice together. How are we going to achieve this? One important scenario is the renewed interest in CPD-led curriculum development. This can be illustrated by DCSF funding to subject associations www.subjectassociations.org.uk/ and the work of other national agencies such as the General Teaching Council for

To support the coordinators and the management group individuals outside this immediate circle will be asked to contribute on an occasional basis by email (or, indeed face-to-face, as participants in some other aspect of the work). It is not proposed to formalise this function with regular meetings.
