A school partnership with Africa, Asia, Latin America or the Caribbean, can help your school deliver to community cohesion and contribute to developing global citizens

How can community involvement contribute to the equity, sustainability and global citizenship goals of global school partnerships? How can global school partnerships contribute to community cohesion and inclusion?

This one-day workshop session considered how school partnerships can be consolidated and enhanced through community involvement. The workshop was for schools wishing to involve local communities in their school partnership and for schools with experience of global school-community partnerships. The workshop explored:
• community profiling
• the global and national influences affecting local communities
• the benefits and challenges of community involvement in global school partnerships
• community cohesion and global citizenship
• way of improving school-community involvement

Outcomes

Participants:

  • explored how the diverse nature of most UK communities is reflected in the communities that schools serve.
  • shared experience with colleagues and benefited from the experience of others
  • considered the benefits of community involvement for school partnership
  • explored how a school partnership can increase awareness of global development issues in local communities
  • left with ideas about initiating or progressing community involvement with their global school partnership.
