General outline of the global dimension course

Aims

  • To enable participants to explore issues of global dimension: social justice and equity, and living in a more sustainable way, in a supportive environment using a range of activities suitable for classroom use.
  • To enable participants to become advocates of global dimension within their own workplaces, so that they can advise and support colleagues in this area, and build a whole school ethos with a global dimension.

  • Why is it important?
  • What does it look like in school?
  • Inclusion, belonging and identity.
  • Challenging stereotypes using images, educational materials and the media.
  • Dealing with discriminatory and controversial issues in school.
  • Personal awareness raising about issues: globalization, interdependence, human rights, sustainability and our impact on the planet.
  • Promoting emotional literacy.
  • Ways of teaching that promote critical thinking, discussion, negotiation, reasoning, co-operation and empathy.
  • Ways of taking the global dimension forward in school.
